PETER MADSEN
TRUMPET
Peter Madsen holds advanced degrees in performance and music education from Syracuse University and Boston University. He is the leader of the Celebration Brass Ensemble and Solo Cornet with the Flower City Society Orchestra. Peter can be heard with the FCSO on the silent film sound tracks of "Peter Pan" (1924), "Captain Salvation" (1927), and "Stella Maris" (1918) and "Poor Little Rich Girl" (1917). He is also active as a trumpet soloist at many area churches, wedding ceremonies, and Broadway show orchestras. Other performance credits include the East Rochester All Stars, Johnny Matt Band, the Crazy Firemen and the Penfield Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, Mr. Madsen has held the position of band director with the Hilton Central School District for the past 21 years.
PAUL MAGUDA
TRUMPET
Mr. Maguda received his BM in trumpet performance and education from the Crane School of Music, Potsdam NY and his MM in education from the Eastman School of Music, Rochester NY. He has performed throughout the Rochester and Buffalo areas with such ensembles as the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Clarence Symphony, Penfield Symphony, Music Educator's Jazz Ensemble At Eastman and the Power Company Dance Band. In addition, he is featured as a trumpet soloist throughout many area churches. Mr. Maguda was a finalist in the New York Brass Conference Quintet Competition and a semi-finalist in The National Trumpet Competition. His composition Quintet for Solo Trumpet and Strings was a semi-final entry in the International Trumpet Guild Composition Contest. He is currently the music department chairperson at Barker Road Middle School in Pittsford, NY where he is the director of concert and jazz bands.
JILL HAMMOND
FRENCH HORN
Jill is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music with a major in music education and a Performer's Certificate on Horn. She has played with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra along with various other orchestras such as the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Harrisburg Symphony, the Lancaster and York Symphonies. She has also performed with such artists as Chuck Mangione, Henry Mancini, The Three Irish Tenors, Art Garfunkel and Tony Bennett. Jill has taught in the public schools and now teaches a studio of horn students. She is a member of the Penfield Symphony and lives in Fairport, N.Y. with her family.
ROBERT KALWAS
TROMBONE
Robert Kalwas is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Emory Remington, Donald Knaub, and George Osborne. He is a member of the Gap Mangione Big Band, the New Energy Jazz Band, and the Flower City Society Orchestra. He has performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestras. An active freelancer, Robert can be heard in the pit of local professional Broadway productions, including the national tours of Lion King, Hairspray, and Beauty and the Beast, among others. He has performed with Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, The Fifth Dimension, The Temptations, Johnny Mathis, Eartha Kitt, and others. Robert is retired after working for 33 years as a music teacher in the Pittsford Central Schools.
MATT SHERRILL
TUBA
Matt Sherrill graduated in 1991 from the Crane School of Music in Potsdam NY, with a M.M in Music Education and a performers certificate on Tuba. While at Crane; Mr. Sherrill was very active as a performer and clinician on tuba, Performing regularly with the Chamber Orchestra of Northern New York and the Potsdam Brass Quintet from 1989-1991. In 1993 Mr. Sherrill moved to the Rochester area where he teaches Low Brass and French Horn and directs the 9th Grade Band in the Fairport Central School District. Since arriving in Rochester, Matt has performed regularly with the Penfield Symphony Orchestra, the Greater Rochester Music Educators Wind Ensemble and most recently with the Celebration Brass Quintet. In addition to performing, Matt is active as a private teacher for Tuba and Euphonium. Matt Resides in Ontario, NY with his wife Cindy.
